Abstract

Asahan Regency's poverty rate decreased by 0.43 points, namely from 8.64 percent in March 2022 to 8.21 percent in March 2023. This poverty rate is equivalent to 61.69 thousand people in March 2023, or a decrease of around 2.8 thousand soul in the past year.
  • The Poverty Line in March 2022 – March 2023 recorded an increase of 7.38 percent, namely from Rp. 397,944,-/capita/month in March 2022 to Rp. 427,293,-/capita/month in March 2023.
  • In the period March 2022-March 2023, both the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) experienced a decline. P1 fell from 1.22 in March 2022 to 0.77 in March 2023, while P2 fell from 0.27 to 0.13. The decrease in P1 indicates that there is a tendency to increase the average consumption expenditure of the poor who are able to keep up with the increase in the poverty line, or in other words the gap between the expenditure of the poor and the poverty line is decreasing. Next, P2 provides an overview of the distribution of consumption expenditure among the poor. A decrease in this index indicates a reduction in inequality in consumption expenditure among the poor, or in other words, the distribution of consumption expenditure is getting better or more evenly distributed.
