Abstract

The poverty rate in Asahan Regency decreased by 0.09 points, namely from 8.21 percent in March 2023 to 8.12 percent in March 2024. This poverty rate is equivalent to 61.34 thousand people in March 2024, or a decrease of around 0.35 thousand people in the past year.
  • The Poverty Line in March 2023 – March 2024 was recorded to have increased by 6.32 percent, namely from IDR 427,293/capita/month in March 2023 to IDR 454,298/capita/month in March 2024.
  • In the period March 2023-March 2024, both the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) increased. P1 increased from 0.77 in March 2023 to 1.15 in March 2024, and P2 increased from 0.13 to 0.29. The increase in P1 indicates a tendency for the average consumption expenditure of the poor to decline, who are unable to keep up with the increase in the poverty line, or in other words, the gap between the expenditure of the poor and the poverty line is increasing. Furthermore, P2 - which provides an overview of the distribution of consumption expenditure among the poor - the increase in this index indicates an increase in the inequality of consumption expenditure among the poor, or in other words, the distribution of consumption expenditure is increasingly uneven.
