Abstract

  • In June 2017, 3 (three) CPI cities in North Sumatra experienced inflation, namely Sibolga by 0.38 percent, Medan by 0.24 percent, and Padangsidimpai 1.09 percent. While Pematangsiantar City experienced deflation of 0.07 percent. Thus, North Sumatra in June 2017 experienced inflation of 0.26 percent.
  • In June 2017, inflation stood at 0.24 percent or an increase in index from 131.73 in May 2017 to 132.05 in June 2017. Inflation was due to price increases indicated by the rising index in housing, water, electricity , Gas and fuel 1.94 percent, food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group by 0.76 percent; Health group by 0.32 percent, and transportation, communication and financial services inflation by 0.20 percent. While the foodstuff category experienced deflation of 1.50 percent; Deflation clothing by 0.84 percent, and education, recreation, and sports groups did not experience a change in index.
  • The main commodities contributing to inflation during June 2017 in Medan include: water tariff for pam, electricity tariff, carrots, noodles, beef, potatoes, and inter-city transportation.
  • From 23 CPI cities in Sumatra Island, the highest inflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 1.83 percent with CPI of 139.08. The lowest inflation occurred in Pekanbaru at 0.15 percent with CPI 130.24. While the only city experiencing deflation occurred in Pematangsiantar by 0.07 percent with CPI 132.71.
  • In Indonesia, in June 2017 from 82 cities observed by Consumer Price Index (CPI), 79 cities experienced inflation, where the highest inflation occurred in Tual at 4.48 percent with CPI 150.91. While the lowest inflation occurred in Merauke by 0.12 percent with a CPI of 135.57.
