Abstract

  • In February 2017, 4 (four) CPI cities in North Sumatra experienced deflation, namely Sibolga of 1.34 percent, Pematangsiantar of 0.17 percent, Medan by 0.64 percent, and Padangsidimpuan 0.07 percent. Thus, North Sumatra in February 2017 experienced a deflation of 0.59 percent.
  • In February 2017, the field of deflation was 0.64 percent or the index declined from 133.44 in January 2017 to 132.59 in February 2017. Deflation was due to a drop in prices indicated by the decline in the index in the foodstuff category by 3, 60 percent and transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.03 percent. While the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group experienced inflation of 0.75 percent; Food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group 0.42 percent; Clothing group 0.31 percent; Health group 0.22 percent; As well as the education, recreation and sports group by 0.01 percent.
  • The main commodities contributing to deflation during February 2017 in Medan include: red pepper, chicken meat, air transport, green mustard, fruit tomatoes, potatoes, and green chili.
  • From 23 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, the highest inflation occurred in Dumai at 1.12 percent with CPI 131.10 and the lowest inflation occurred in Palembang and Batam at 0.09 percent with CPI of 125.73 and 127.92, respectively.
  • In Indonesia, in February 2017 from 82 cities observed by Consumer Price Index (CPI), 62 cities experienced inflation, where the highest inflation occurred in Manado at 1.16 percent with CPI of 128.49. While the lowest inflation occurred in Ternate by 0.03 percent with CPI 131.13.
