Abstract

  • In March 2017, 3 (three) CPI cities in North Sumatra experienced deflation, namely Sibolga by 0.70 percent, Medan by 0.20 percent, and Padangsidimpuan 0.43 percent. While Pematangsiantar City experienced inflation of 0.17 percent. Thus, North Sumatra in March 2017 experienced deflation of 0.19 percent.
  • In March 2017, Medan deflation of 0.20 percent or an index decline from 132.59 in February 2017 to 132.33 in March 2017. Deflation occurred due to price declines indicated by the decline in index in the foodstuff group of 1, 23 percent, the deflated healthcare group by 0.01 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.37 percent. While clothing group experienced inflation 0.49 percent; Food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group 0.47 percent; Housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group experienced inflation of 0.34 percent; As well as education, recreation, and sports 0.02 percent.
  • The main commodities contributing to deflation during March 2017 in Medan include: red pepper, mobile phone pulse rate, cayenne pepper, cassava leaves, air transport, dresses and fruit tomatoes.
  • Of the 23 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, the highest inflation occurred in Bungo at 0.71 percent with CPI 126.23 and the lowest inflation occurred in Tembilahan by 0.01 percent with CPI 131.26. The highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 1.49 percent with CPI of 134.11 and the lowest deflation occurred in Padang by 0.01 percent with CPI of 134.04.
  • In Indonesia, in March 2017 from 82 cities observed by Consumer Price Index (IHK), 33 cities experienced inflation, where the highest inflation occurred in Merauke at 1.24 percent with CPI of 135.67. While the lowest inflation occurred in Tembilahan and Banjarmasin by 0.01 percent with CPI of 131.26 and 127.74 respectively.
