Abstract

• Sumatera Utara's economic growth as measured by the increase in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) at constant 2010 prices in the first semester of 2018 grew 5.02 percent. The highest growth in the field of education services business was 8.94 percent, followed by information and communication at 8.29 percent and company services at 8.01 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth in the consumption expenditure component of LNPRT grew by 9.09 percent.
• Based on the production approach, three business fields that gave a dominant role to GRDP in 2018 were: agriculture, forestry and fisheries by 21.09 percent, processing industries by 20.28 percent and wholesale and retail trade and repair of cars and motorbikes by 18.36 percent. In terms of expenditure, it was dominated by components of household consumption expenditure of 53.92 percent and exports of goods and services by 35.14 percent.
• When compared to the first quarter of 2018 (q to q) the economy of Sumatera Utara in the second quarter of 2018 increased 2.18 percent. From a sectoral perspective, the business administration sector experienced the highest growth of 4.52 percent. While from the expenditure side the highest growth was achieved by the component of government consumption expenditure of 10.26 percent.
• Nominally, Sumatera Utara's GRDP in the second quarter of 2018 based on current prices reached Rp.182,018.37 billion and GDP at constant 2010 prices reached Rp.126,768.48 billion.
